Hotel Simplon

The hotel was beautiful and the room and bed were comfortable. However, there were 3 things that were terrible: • The pool was freezing cold! What a disappointment! swimming was so uncomfortable! • The shower was in the middle of a very narrow bathtub that was uncomfortable to stand in or get in and out. The shower head could not be secured to the shower arm and sprayed water all over. Since there was only half shower door the entire bathroom got wet when the shower head was acting up. • The toilet was too close to the sink, so we had to kind of slid in to use the toilet, and our legs were practically UNDER the sink.

Fabulous and well kept hotel, very big room, beautiful garden and pool, great breakfast, gentle and friendly staff. And fair price. What else would you need? 😃 It’s not directly on the lake but it’s connected through a very nice internal underground (art) gallery with the Grand Hotel Dino (same property), which is on the lake. Maybe one point to mention is that the parking is not included (20 € p/day)

Hotel was selected by Insight Vacations on the tour of Switzerland. Lovely hotel - my room had lake view and view of swimming pool. Room very comfortable and breakfast had a superb selection making it a delicious experience. Staff polite and courteous. Hotel is rather huge so somewhat a maze but room was soundproofed

This hotel surpassed expectations Good points Amazing building. Beautiful rooms and ver comfortable bed. The shower was great. Pool was great too. Bad side Parking was an additional €30 per day which I think is steep for what you get. The breakfast is expensive too at €25 per person per day

This is a beautiful luxury hotel located near the center of Baveno on Lago Maggiore. The lobby, grounds, and rooms are all meticulously maintained and beautiful. The hotel shares pool facilities with Hotel Dino (via an underground passge). The hotel Dino is right on the lake, while the Hotel Simplon is perhaps 300m back from the lake. We had a top floor room with beautiful views and a loft for the kids. There was a balcony with amazing views. There is a pool and an enclosed turf soccer field at this hotel, which the kids loved. The staff were kind and responsive. The only reason that I do not give it a 5 star review is that at checkout they had an opt-out option (it was already on the bill and I had to decline it) for a 5% tip on the total bill - which was uncomfortable and unexpected as Italy is not a nation where tipping is expected. They were kind when I declined, but as this was our last interaction with the hotel, it left a poor final impression, for what was otherwise a wonderful hotel.

This hotel is very clean and well maintained. The gardens and pool are outstanding and being able to use the facilities at the sister hotel was a bonus. Reception staff are very pleasant. The bar staff were efficient. The dining room is beautiful but sadly the food leaves a lot to be desired. It lacked imagination and 2 tasty courses would have been preferable to many courses of poor quality. A trip to the breakfast bar resulted in over zealous waiters clearing the table when we had not finished eating. The maitre d did not ask why there was so much food left uneaten. We were refused tap water and had to pay 5 euros for a bottle of water at each meal. What a shame when the overall look of the hotel is so nice

I would have liked to have given a higher rating as the hotel itself and its grounds are quite deligIihtful. The pool area is stunning. The staff - mostly - are attentive and polite BUT and it is a a big one..................the dining room experience was not even average. The room itself is lovely so is the view from every window but starting with breakfast nothing was up to what I expected. The hot food was really not hot at all and not worth bothering with - much of it was stone cold; the bacon was fatty and undercooked and although at first fried eggs were available on request, it was then decided that a charge of 9 euros would be made if anyone did not want the cold, hard boiled eggs or luke warm scrambled variety. Never on a buffet with eggs have I ever been asked to pay for a fried egg. Our group were on a half board basis. Let us just say that the average motorway cafe has a better selection and better chef. One evening our entire table of ten people and, I believe this was a duplicated reaction on other tables, barely touched the 'sea bream' - it was served unappetisingly, was overcooked and did not even smell enticingly - quite the reverse. Did the maitre d' - if you could call him that - check with his guests to see what the problem was or offer an alternative ?? Absolutely not - his disinterest was apparent in other ways too. We were told that there was always an alternative to the table d' hote offering but when asked for it on more than occasion we were told it was all gone. No apology nor an offer of even a salad was forthcoming. As far as this individual was concerned the subject was closed even though his guests' stomachs were empty. There was also a pasta option or soup for one of the courses. This was either very dry or slopping around in a watery sauce. The mains consisted of potatoes that were mostly overcooked and dry. There was an insufficiency of fresh vegetables and salad items. One fish dish said to contain asparagus contained no more than one stringy head and the baby tomatoes had been cut into tiny pieces - I think one baby tomato served two or three people. One night the pudding course was the same fruit salad on the breakfast buffet with one or additions such as a slither or two of strawberry. I do accept we were on a very reasonable package but this one definitely left a poor taste. One other minor ****** - on a table of ten people we were told we could only have one salt and pepper pot. Given that most dishes were too salty there were others that needed more so people were constantly passing one salt pot round the table. It is such a shame that the dining experience was so bad - everything else might have received five stars!

Stayed here for a conference. Service was rather poor. No minibar in rooms, no kettles to make some tea. You will have to order hot water from a bar downstairs. Waiters take your plates even before you finish your food. Dinner is served quite slowly so you’ll finish around 10 pm. Air conditioning was useless and did not adjust up to your manipulation with control. Not enough electrical sockets. Location and beautiful nature saves the place.
