Sunset Beach Hotel

We had an amazing stay at sunset beach, friendly happy staff, always wanting to help you. Room was clean and tidy. Gardens are colourful. Entertainment was great and the music was upbeat. Food was warm and tasteful. Bar was small but the staff just seem to manage. Pool staff were there for your needs. Situated on Kotu beach was just glorious. It was our first visit to Gambia and just feel in love with the unspoilt beauty. I can’t wait to return to sunset beach and beautiful Gambia.

We were there for Xmas and New Year which meant we had two gala buffet evenings with lots of excellent food, music and entertainment with the addition of beach fireworks on New Year’s Eve and both were very enjoyable. Apart from these evenings the food was disappointing, repetitive, over spicy and lacked fresh vegetables. The desserts were basic too, more fresh fruit is needed. Some of the music acts were exceptional but the volume was sometimes too loud and if you wanted an early night that wasn’t going to happen as no double glazing. They are in the process of upgrading the hotel and I have seen the double glazing units that will be used. The pool area is quite small but clean and well organised, the pool was very cold despite a 34c air temperature. The smaller pool was a bit pointless as it was far too shallow. I also want to say that the entertainment staff were friendly and professional and tried their hardest to get guest participation. The girl employee called Aisha only started in December she is very sweet and funny and obviously replaced the one previously spoken about by Gary T. The beach is vast and the sea warm and more people should use it, with care. The rooms are gradually being updated but at the moment they are basic but our bungalow had an amazing wood beamed ceiling. We had problems with the safe and the air con but maintenance are excellent and very swift and sorted out both problems eventually putting in a new air con unit. The issue of having to pay for a change of beach towel is a real one and although it saves water and reduces costs it needs some consideration for the future. The drinks at the bar were pretty dire, apart from not using top shelf spirits the mixers were similar to the ‘Happy Shopper’ brand. The white and rose wine were acceptable but the red was horrendous! Overall we had a lovely time and made lots of new friends but our holiday in the second week was spoilt by a large family group who were fighting, swearing and shouting and even falling down drunk, the hotel could really do without this type of group and the management should have been more proactive to contain their behaviour. Gardens are beautiful.

Booked Sunset Beach for my partners 50 th birthday and it did not disappoint Check in was smooth and quick The rooms are basic but exactly as the picture s had shown so no surprise s Pool areas are clean and sun beds plentiful , pool guys are great and even collected our beach towels from outside our room and put them out on our sun-beds ready for us The food was amazing could not fault it at all Always hot and fresh nothing left standing to go cold Breakfast was plentiful cereal ,yogurt ,fruit ,full continental including various breads buns and pastries and full cooked breakfast with eggs and omelettes cooked to order Lunch and dinner always had full salad bar ,soup and bread along with fish dishes pork dishes chicken dishes beef dishes various potato and veg option and rice and pasta dishes. To finish fresh fruits and various cakes The chef and his team always took time to talk to you and they did an excellent job Entertainment was varied threw out the day A massive shout out to Richard and Isha you both do a fantastic job Every member of staff smile all day Evening entertainment was soooo good ..cultural bands , singers ,acrobats something different every night (tipping is not expected but very welcomed) We did the safari and lion walk … a trip not to be missed A great experience from start to finish. Find Lamin on the beach to the right of the hotel he’s a great guide A fantastic holiday with great people we will be back !!

A small non commercial hotel- the service is personal and friendly. The location was perfect, the staff so willing to help , and were always smiling and in good spirits. This was our first time in the Gambia , and overall , it was an amazing experience.

What a fantastic hotel. Not our 1st time in the Gambia but definitely the best hotel we have stayed in. All the staff were so happy and friendly and the food was always hot and tasty. We stayed in a garden bungalow which was very spacious. Tip - make sure you get out of the hotel and mix with locals they are so happy and friendly.
