Ledger Plaza Bangui

This is supposed to be the best hotel in Bangui, and since I haven't stayed in any other place in the city, it may well be. That said, and on the basis of two short stays in the beginning and end of a trip to the Central African Republic, it is also an overpriced place that has plenty of flaws. On first glance the rooms look fine. They're sizeable, and most amenities (eg. the AC, the safe, hot water, etc) work. On my first stay the bed sheets were none too clean and stayed. On my second stay, power kept going off and when I asked, the receptionist told me that their generator was broken. So much for AC and hot water then. The staff and the bar and restaurant were friendly, though not really efficient, whereas the reception staff was less friendly but more efficient. The food for lunch and dinner was actually quite good, with very tasty fish. Breakfast was more rudimentary, though they did make a good omelette on request. Oddly enough, the per night price in my second stay was almost the double of my first stay. Regardless, at 130 or 230 euros a night, this is an overpriced place.

I stayed here on two occasions, on the beginning and end of a trip to the Central African Republic. Both stays had positives and negatives, with the minuses outnumbering the pluses. Superficially, the rooms look fine and are spacious. In my first stay, the top sheet was quite dirty and the bathroom somewhat moldy, but had good hot water. The AC, TV and the room safe were all in good working order. In my second stay, the sheets were fine, and the bathroom in slightly better shape, but power kept going off. When I inquired at the reception, I was brusquely told that their generator was broken, so no AC, no hot water and no TV while there's no power. Breakfasts were generally average, though the bread was good, and they make a good omelet. Lunches and dinners were quite good with tasty fish. Staff at the bar and the restaurant were generally friendly; those at the reception less so. Oddly enough, the daily room price in my second stay was nearly double the prince of my first stay. Regardless, whether you pay 125 euros a night or 230 euros, this is an overpriced hotel.

Don't - Just don't. This was awful - and is very expensive. First room I was offered had no functioning AC. The second room (now on the top floor so even hotter, had just about workable AC). No desk lamp, poor lighting in room. The whole corridor smelt damp and in need of fresh air. Visible mould on the corridir wallsOn two nights, there was no AC in public rooms downstairs. Someones false eye lashes were left on the floor by the bed. Yes, you did read that. No towels in the room. Called house keeping and was told to get them myself. We had a conversation and they were deliverd. Towels were removed the following day and not replaced. I had to call and get new ones. Breakfast was good. Evening meals were OK. My flight was delayed (Coup in Niger) and I had to stay an extra night. I left and moved to a new hotel.

Extremely overpriced hotel for the low quality of service and room facilities. They moved me to three different rooms in the first night because there either wasn’t a functional safety deposit box or air conditioning unit (which leaked profusely, requiring a bucket). The final room I was placed in did not have a functioning phone, which they promised to fix but never did. Dirty sheets, frequent power cuts, inconsistent internet and intermittent water in the hotel room. It remains the only hotel in Africa I’ve stayed in where there is almost a complete absence of English speaking skills by the front desk staff. The outdoor pool area is lovely.
