Popped in for coffee and scone. Began with coffee being cold, then the scone was dry. We had just finished scone and were enjoying our drinks when waitress approached us and asked us to pay bill, we said we were not finished, she was pilot and obviously uncomfortable and said it was company policy as they had a lot of walk offs. We said we had no intention to walk off and we were not finished, what if we wanted to order more, she said you can reorder and pay again. We felt embarrassed and humiliated at the suggestion that we may have done this. We paid and said we were leaving, drinks unfinished. We spoke to manager and she said it was policy, were we regulars they don’t ask regulars to pay, we informed her we would not back and that it unfair to their staff to ask them to approach us in such a way, considering we were sitting beside the bar and 3 staff constantly around us. we felt humiliated and had been relaxing only to be embarrassed and felt insulted. We had been looking at the evening menu and were considering going back. We also had watched others there for a birthday celebration, we birthday in the following weeks and had been thinking it would be good as a family gathering, not now. If the hotel wants to run their business like a fast food outlet they should put an illuminating sign outside. Disappointed.
