Balian Surf Villas

We stayed in villa 3 of the five villas. Unfortunately it seems it was the worst. The online photos appear to be from a range of the villas. All are in a great location close to the beach and offer good views of the surf from the rooftop. Villa 3 needed some serious maintenance. Lamps, taps, chairs, the safe and the shower curtain are all dirty and broken. The couch was filthy and torn. It was so worn and uncomfortable that we couldn’t use it even after covering it with sheets from the second bedroom. The guests just before us reported the same issues but no action has been taken. Very poor for the amount charged. On the plus side, the interior was clean (unlike the rooftop area), it had a nice pool and Netflix. The AC in the bedroom worked well. Importantly, the owner refunded our money with no argument when we complained and left early.

Having read other reviews prior to booking. I believe there are multiple villas with some better than others. Unfortunately, we were lodged in an unacceptable villa. Having travelled to Indonesia many times at different stages of our lives we have stayed in many cheap accommodations for which is fine when paying minimum, not so when paying a premium believing this is the level of accommodation you will receive. We booked and paid for 3 nights but did not stay, nor upon request receive a refund. Our pillows had blood and mould stains. They TV did not work, the front door would not lock. The entire villa had a cheap dirty feel to it. The villa was not what was advertised in photos on the online travel agency. Upon complaint the villa was unacceptable via phone we were asked to leave the keys in the door and vacate. No reply was ever received from our refund requests. There are many other great value accommodations in Balian. I recommend you try them and don't book here.
