"Kates farmhouse set in a beautiful location. Lovely room with en-suite, ground floor with bonus door to outside area. Good value. Quiet setting noisiest thing was probably a tractor going by. Kate was a wonderful host, loved meeting her canine companions Betsy & Rambo who both enjoyed a tummy tickle on the sofa! We had a hearty cooked breakfast each day. Accommodation suitable for those people who want a get away from it break."

"My fault as didn’t check the small print but pub not open Monday and Tuesday for meals which was a real pain. Also breakfast could do with starting earlier in the week as 830am too late for business purposes, finally and a personal view hate self check ins so impersonal. Breakfast was very good"

Hills Farm Stays

Hills Farm Stays

📍 Hills Farm, Whitford Rd, Axminster
★★★ 8,1 (39 Bewertungen)

"Hill Farm Stays offers a rustic countryside escape with several notable positives. The food was genuinely enjoyable — fresh, hearty, and thoughtfully prepared — and the communication from the staff was prompt and friendly throughout our stay. The bedroom layout was particularly stylish and very comfortable, offering a cozy place to unwind. However, there were several issues that significantly impacted our experience. Most concerning was the lack of hygiene within the on-site restaurant. While a countryside atmosphere is part of the charm, allowing animals to freely enter dining areas — particularly a cat that mingled with guests during meals — was inappropriate and unhygienic. Additionally, the owner's daughter, who appeared to be in charge of serving alcoholic drinks, was doing so without proper measurements. One guest ordered a vodka and coke and was served a pint of coke alongside two 50ml shot glasses of vodka. This not only lacked professionalism but raised safety concerns. The hot tub and sauna facilities were average at best. Their location — poorly sheltered and situated alarmingly close to a horse barn — made it difficult to relax or feel clean. Unfortunately, due to accumulated dust in the room, I developed an eye infection during my stay, which required antihistamines. The situation was highly uncomfortable, and while the owner acknowledged the issue, no responsibility was taken, nor was any refund or compensation offered. For a hospitality service, I found this disappointing. While the stay had its moments — particularly with food, communication, and room comfort — the hygiene issues and lack of accountability diminished what could have been a much more enjoyable experience. I leave my ratings as they stand, with the view that a partial refund would have been appropriate, but was regrettably not provided"

"Wyke Farm is a fantastic place to stay. The accommodation is excellent, beautifully decorated and pristine. The layout is spacious and everything is catered for, from comfy beds to top quality appliances. The Whitakers are consummate hosts being great fun and nothing is too much trouble. The scenery is stunning and the location wonderfully relaxing and picturesque. The whole weekend was amazing and I would strongly recommend this for a family holiday, a quiet getaway or a party. Go for it!"

"We arrived at the shabby looking property at 4.10pm. The owners apparently are on holiday in Canada. There was no-one answering the door & the mobile number went straight to answer phone. Eventually in the red hot sun we found a lady sunbathing in a bikini- she was just looking after the dogs and told us to go straight up. What a site met us- more like a residential home with a stale smell, old dingy carpets, a poky little room with a put up bed with sweaty satin quilt cover and pillow . The bottom sheets were like flannalette from the 1960s. The view from the bedroom window was a wilderness of unkept garden. No fresh crisp sheets or nice towels. Everything looked grim & dusty. Although I have lost nearly £600 it is worth it not to stay there! . I question the validity of the reviews."

Familie
Kates Farm Bed and Breakfast ★★★

"Restaurant was recommended to us as we were staying g nearby and it did not disappoint . Starting with an Amuse bouche to set the tone …….. wonderful flavours that all went so well together , best food on our South Devon week away . Also the service was very good , 3 staff front of house looking after a full restaurant and bar - each helping the other and communicating and very slick . Will definitely return …….they are Michelin recommended and fully deserve to be awarded a star which will hopefully come soon ."

Hills Farm Stays ★★★
"Firstly, the farm is an amazing set up and the cottages are great spaces for large groups. We did the axe throwing/archery/shooting activity which was amazing and done very well. We also had Sunday roast which was delicious and as we were a large group, I was impressed how efficiently it went and how good the food was. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. Steve was rude and unprofessional towards our organiser. Our barn was unclean and after 3 days of cold showers, I was pleased to return home to hot running water. The wagon shed was boiling due to the aga and the bedrooms could not be properly ventilated. Honestly, the farm had so much potential to be great this weekend, but due to a lack of care for the barns and those paying large amounts of money to stay, it sadly falls short. "

The Dairy at Wyke Farm ★★★★
"A fabulous farm in wonderful countryside. The accommodation is top notch, nicely decorated with attention to detail. The bed was super comfy and the heating just right. John and Kathryn's renovation of all the buildings is sympathetic, tasteful but with comfort in mind. They are amazing hosts, have thought of everything and gave us lots of ideas of what to do and see. There are great walks along the coast nearby (plenty of mud but Wyke Farm has a hose and brush to deal with that) and ancient pubs for a filling lunch afterwards. Strongly recommend this as a base to explore or to hole up in bad weather and enjoy the lovely interiors."

"Communication and information spot on. John is also quick to respond to any questions. The cabin is so cute, we loved our stay and so did Lola our dog. Nice touches with the dog treat bag and gorgeous Ginger biscuits for us, not forgetting the chocolate mints on our bed It’s got a nice rustic feel with everything you could need. Apologies about the coffee John I had a bit of a scene opening the bag and it split On that note of coffee you will be in for a treat. Very easy to find and John communicated with clear instructions. It’s about a 10 minute drive into Lyme or you can catch a bus from Hunters Inn pub which is what we did on both evenings. We did get a taxi back but be sure to book in advance!!! We also visited the tea room opposite the cabin for breakfast. Highly recommend we had sausage & egg sandwiches Cabin was clean and tidy and perfect for a rustic stay with the dog. Shower was great and heating must be on a timer as it was always toasty and warm at night. My only negative would be the towels. Adults really need bath sheets not a bath towel. You’ve made a lovely effort to provide bathrobes complete the experience with nice fluffy bath sheet towels ☺️ I’d 100% come back. And please pass on our thanks to Claire for dropping us off at Hunters. What a lovely friend you have. Thank you John & Sue for a lovely stay Infact we found the people in Lyme so happy & friendly. Highly recommend."
