Coylumbridge Resort Hotel

Seien Sie freundlich.

The hotel is definitely not a 4 star. Top range 3 star at best. The room was clean. It was advertised as a king sized bed, however putting 2 single beds together is very misleading. The Italian restaurant, the staff are nice but the service is very very slow. Took me an hour to get food. The location is ideal. The sports centre is good and spacious. The pool is good fun. The gym needs a complete modernisation program. Not enough equipment and in a very small room. The sports centre could utiltse space more effectively and have a state of the art gym in the other bigger rooms. It would be used well, however this is sadly not the case. I will return and use this hotel in the future. The price is not cheep and if your expecting Hilton quality then this is not the hotel for you.

Definitely not what we paid for. We have just returned from the 3 day New Year Family Package which was precious family time we always enjoy. But the package and the resort was frankly shambolic, and heartbreakingly disappointing for the adults and the kids. We had been looking forward to the trip as we had been there 5 years ago. We booked this trip well in advance and had fully discussed the details of the package with the sales staff (Karen) before paying nearly £3000, it sounded fantastic. We received an email setting out the package, menus, entertainments and event details. However on arrival it was clear the hotel and the complex had significantly deteriorated, it looked old and rundown, carpark and roads were dangerous with potholes, poor lighting and very poor signage, and no gritting carried out when it snowed. The building we were allocated was the Aviemore family wing, it was awful, we were on the 3rd floor the lift was out of order, it smelled damp and looked old and dirty. The bar was closed 2 nights out of the 3, breakfast was served in the bar area and was basic. We had specifically requested not to be allocated this block. We were told there was nothing they could do to change this. Our rooms were basic and in much need of refurbishment. The family Hogmanay party upstairs in the Peregrine Suite was very disappointing, the room was far too small for the amount of people. Kids queuing across the dance floor for a Buffett that was poor quality and cold taking over two hours to serve, killing any chance of dancing. The adults menu had been advertised as a full Buffett but was a very poor set menu that did not consider any dietary needs and certainly not what we had paid for. The entertainment was very much aimed at the kids, and did not create a party vibe for the for the adults, it felt a poor second best to the excellent entertainment from the Red Hot Chilly Pipers in the downstairs party. It was very disappointing that the band and compare were unable to coordinate the brining in of the bells and the new year and this important moment was lost! The fireworks display was excellent and we very much enjoyed that. The other two evening meals in the Aspen and Italian restaurants were okay but again set menus, not what we expected. Swimming pool was fun, but towels were threadbare, floors were very dirty, ladies showers were freezing, changing rooms were inappropriately mixed use. As a family party of 4 adults and 2 kids this was a great opportunity that we made the most of but feel very disappointed and let down by Macdonald Aviemore Resort!

We recently stayed at the Macdonald Highland Hotel for two nights (checking in on Fri-30-Aug and checking out on Sun-01-Sept; room 2202 a “deluxe double” room). This trip was a special occasion for us as we were enjoying some quality time as a family of three before welcoming our second child — I’m currently 8 months pregnant. When booking, I mentioned my pregnancy and requested a “popular” room to contribute in making this special. (Despite the resort being like a ghost town, the room we were in was not just basic but subpar). While we rate it 10/10 for children with the array of facilities offered (and is the only reason we hope to return next year), I must express our disappointment with the quality of sleep we experienced during our stay. Being 8 months pregnant, sleep is already challenging, and unfortunately, the bed in our room was atrocious. The mattress was severely sunken in the centre, which exacerbated my existing pelvic girdle pain and left me in significant discomfort. The mattress was too hard, the sheets were torn and it has to be said, it was sadly the most uncomfortable bed I’ve slept in. As a result, I only managed about 4 hours of sleep the entire stay, and on the second night, my partner even ended up sleeping on the floor. Certainly not worth the £408 we paid for our stay — we expected much better. The general feel of the place is tired and in need of refreshing - particularly the rooms. There was mould around the bath / shower, the TV is Freeview with no channel guide and the sound wasn’t working on half of them … Not that we go to hotel’s to watch TV however, it’s nice to put on while family are getting ready / in the evening. I would have shared this feedback upon check-out, but since we were not asked about our experience, I felt it more appropriate to communicate this via a review. On a positive note, our daughter, despite a disturbed sleep the second night, had an enjoyable time. Like I said, the facilities for children were fabulous. We hope that if we return next year, we’ll be able to enjoy a more restful stay!
