Polis Grand Hotel

Die Lage war gut, da es in der Nähe des Parthenon und nur wenige Gehminuten vom nächsten Bahnhof entfernt war, aber die Aussicht vom Zimmer war so nah am Gebäude nebenan, dass ich die Nachtansicht nicht sehen konnte. Das war der einzige enttäuschende Teil. Es war großartig, den Parthenon und die Nachtansicht vom Dach aus sehen zu können. Das Zimmer war sauber und ich blieb zwei Tage dort und ich war froh, dass das Zimmer zwischen den Tagen gereinigt wurde. Da er auch Englisch sprach, war er so freundlich, mir ein Taxi zu rufen.

Die im Internet gesehenen Fotos unterscheiden sich stark von den tatsächlichen 😂, der Typ ist ein häusliches M*tel 168 der Anfangszeit, das Zimmer ist extrem klein und der Duschraum ist so klein, dass ich als dünner Mensch es nicht kann. Ich kann mich nicht bewegen 😇 (Ich habe ein Executive-Zimmer mit privatem Blick auf die Akropolis im zweiten Stock des Dachbalkons gebucht) Zwei Erwachsene und ein Kind checkten ein und fühlten sich überhaupt nicht in der Lage, sich umzudrehen ... Abgesehen von der guten Einstellung zum Kundenservice An der Rezeption und der Lage gibt es nichts zu empfehlen... Die Umgebung fühlt sich schmutzig und unordentlich an🫣...

Angenehmer Aufenthalt im Zentrum von Athen. Das einzige Problem war, dass unser Zimmer auf ein altes, heruntergekommenes Gebäude hinausging, was beim Hinausgehen auf den Balkon nicht schön anzusehen war. Allerdings konnte man in der Ferne die Akropolis sehen! Das Zimmer ist sauber und das Bett sehr bequem. Das Frühstücksbuffet ist durchschnittlich und könnte besser sein. Es gibt ein Dachrestaurant, in dem das Essen, das wir hatten, wirklich gut war und von dem aus man eine gute Aussicht auf die Akropolis hatte.

Our stay here at Polis was average. The staff were standoffish and did little to explain processes. We turned up to breakfast unsure what to do on our first morning, and there was no one present to greet and explain. We did the half board and the dinner was awful!! I would not recommend. The bread was stale; the pasta was tasteless, cold (Well the sides were warm-ish and the middle cold, which suggests it was microwaved), and looked like it was served by someone inexperienced. We only went once, after that we just ate out. One one of the days, we got a breakfast to go bag because of an early excursion. Great service to have but badly executed. We went down before 7 stating we will need a breakfast bag, which was agreed. Then at 7:30 we went to pick it up, a different receptionist than became combatted, saying were should have picked up before 7 as now breakfast is open. So again another process not properly explained. We did get the breakfast bag following arguments. But it was awful! The only good thing was the cake, juice and fruit. The picture of the sandwich tells it all. The breakfast service itself was nice, good variety and choices. On our last day, our floor had the damp smell from the carpet. The rooms however are decent, clean but on the smaller side. The mini gym is definitely what it says mini, but it had no aircon or water facilities. It got really hot very quickly down there. The machines were also very very old and made the most awful noise. The treadmill didn't even incline. The area of the Hotel was also not great, there were overspill trash that smelt awful. Overall not a great experience but had potential

We had perhaps unwisely built up our expectations having seen the PR photographs and the mostly positive reviews. On arrival the outside of the hotel and lobby was somewhat underwhelming and our check in experience was not great. We had booked via an online travel agent and had booked a ‘city view standard room’. We confirmed our room type on check in to be told we had a basic room with a courtyard view at the back of the hotel. Courtyard view is somewhat ‘creative’ as it is more or less a large air shaft. We queried this at check in and were handed over to ‘William’ who had the somewhat ironic title of guest relations manager. William told us that ‘we’ had made a mistake and had booked the basic room as this was what their ‘standard’ rooms were. The fact It was described as a city view was our mistake and not theirs and we should take it up with our agent. We were told the hotel was full and there was nothing that could be done unless we wanted to upgrade to their top suite and he could perhaps obtain a discount but would need to check. This was followed by the statement ‘ I can see what you paid and I tell you now the cost won’t be 10 Euro a night’. Any discussion of a gesture of goodwill by perhaps a drink or meal was met with a refusal. William’s attitude was frankly, belligerent, arrogant and rude. William returned from his phone call and suddenly became more helpful. He moved us to a top floor room to what he called a ‘sunset view room’ which he told us was his ‘favourite’ room category. By this time we were tired from a day of travelling and just wanted to go to the room. The room itself is very small with little room to move around. It was spotlessly clean and the bed although small was comfortable. The bathroom had a walk in shower but again was very small. We had the rooftop bar kitchen above our room and were kept away by banging and crashing until after 23:30. We mentioned this to William the flowing morning who said it was ‘not possible’ as there was nothing g above us. He eventually conceded there was a kitchen above us but it shut at 10pm so again it cannot have been the kitchen but perhaps it had been the wind? After this encounter we gave up as the hotel was clearly not interested. The noise continued for the rest of our three night stay. The breakfast buffet was ok and I would say it was ‘solid’ rather than amazing and has no egg chef. The rooftop bar was quite nice for a drink and we cannot comment on the food as we did not eat here. The lift is a joke and can only fit one person with two suitcases. Our interaction with other members of staff was very good and we found them to always be friendly and helpful. As other people have highlighted the corridors are painted black which makes the atmosphere and ambience quite dark and oppressive. Clever use of photography on the hotel website makes the rooms appear larger than they are, and the hotel to be a lot ‘grander’ than it actually is. Would I stay here again? Defi

Great location, nice room, and very accommodating staff. Breakfast is included, and when we needed to leave earlier than breakfast, began, they provided us with a nice sack snack. The rooftop bar offers the most incredible views!

The staff was amazing, and this hotel. As a solo traveler on my first trip to Athens, they were very helpful. It was a great location, very easy to walk to all of the neighborhoods that are must-see in Athens. The restaurant has a great view of the Parthenon.
