Whilst lovely, this is barely a hotel, and certainly not five stars. It is a conference and wedding venue that seems to try and sell its rooms to private guests during the week. While the staff are delightful and very helpful, and the venue is beautiful, the facilities and service are very limited. There is no pool or spa (despite these being pictured on all the holiday websites we looked at). Although the staff did say they'd taken the spa photos down on their own website, this was not made clear at the time of booking. During the week there is an extremely limited menu of just five basic items available to eat (lunch and dinner) - and as the hotel is a good 15min drive from the nearest town, this was a serious issue. The room (we had a junior suite) was absolutely beautiful but again, clearly a wedding venue rather than a hotel - no room service, and very few amenities - although the surrounding park and walks are lovely. We came here for a quiet and romantic holiday away without our children and to be fair, we achieved that. However, I would warn anyone who thinks that this is a ”hotel” to beware - it is not, it is a very charming conference centre and certainly every day we were there, they had a big event and we felt very much in the way. We ended up staying elsewhere for the last two nights of our stay, as there are far nicer places in the area - something the Castillo did not seem surprised by and did not ask us why we were staying elsewhere or if anything was wrong. When we finally checked out, despite having paid in advance, the (again charming) lady at reception had no idea that we'd already paid, and there was confusion over whether we had to pay again. We left with not a good taste, and sadly - although we have nothing bad to say about the staff or the location, both of which are very nice - we would not come back. However, other people seem to have had a lovely time here so perhaps it depends what you are looking for, and what your standards are. Final word though: cannot fault the staff, all of whom were courteous, charming, spoke perfect English, and were very patient and polite.

This is a lovely, well-located hotel with friendly, diligent staff. Our ”superior” (i.e. standard) room was relatively large and very comfortable with perhaps the most luxurious bedding we encountered during our three week sojourn by car across northern Spain. The site offers easy and very enjoyable walking routes to the city centre and old town and it is surrounded by a good range of restaurants and bars. A special shout-out to our multilingual friend Alberto at reception who made us feel especially welcome and who gave us several good recommendations to enhance our stay. Our only misgiving about the place was in regard to the hotel restaurant, La Palmero del Indiano. The space is stylish and welcoming and the servers we had during two dinners, a lunch, and a room service delivery were clearly doing their very gracious best. However, our unfortunate impression was that the restaurant was understaffed and service suffered as a result. Yes, we did take account of the fact that meals tend to unfold at a more leisurely pace than we are used to in Canada. But, more than once, the dishes we received were not what we had ordered or, worse, the requested items never appeared at all. Skip this part if TL;DR is already a factor. It is clearly on us for not being able to speak Spanish, but another dimension of the problem seemed to occur once the servers left the table with our orders in English then tried to match them to the corresponding dishes on the Spanish menu before sending their ticket to the kitchen. This seemed to be a problem every/every time we placed an order, even when we tried to do the matching ourselves by simultaneously consulting both the English and Spanish menus. So, managers, here is an obvious suggestion: Either (a) assign a number to menu items on both English and Spanish menus to ease the job of your servers and minimize confusion, or (b) include a subscript of their Spanish names on the English menu. Overall, we would highly recommend this hotel and we look forward to returning there, and to the great city of Oviedo, in the next year.

Bleib hier 2 Nächte Das Hostel befindet sich im Herzen des historischen Zentrums Oviedo, nur eine Straße von der bustreichen Plaza de la Constitución und der Stadthalle Oviedo entfernt. Das Hostel ist ca. 15 Minuten zu Fuß vom Hauptbus und Bahnhof in der Stadt und ziemlich einfach zu finden, wenn ich meinen Weg zum Stadthalle finde. Die Eincheckung war wirklich einfach, da das Hostel mich gebeten, online zu prüfen und alle Rezeption benötigt war mein Pass, um meine Identität zu bestätigen. Ich wurde überall im Hostel, einschließlich der Küche, der Gemeinde und natürlich das Schlafzimmer gezeigt. Das Dorm war ein vier-Bett-Dorm mit 2 Bündelbetten und ein Bad mit Toilette, Dusche und Badezimmer. Dusche und Toiletten funktionierten gut. Die Bündel waren die Holzrahmen-Variante, obwohl es ziemlich robust war. Obwohl mein Bunkfreund ein bisschen ein Nachtwoll war, hatte ich noch 2 Nächte gut schlafen. Die Matratze war eine Art dicke Schaum und wirklich komfortabel. Die Decken waren dick und ich hatte um eine zusätzliche Schleife gebeten. Obwohl es kalt war, fühlte es sich immer noch warm und gemütlich unter den Wäschereien. Das Frühstück wurde geliefert und bestand hauptsächlich aus Getreide, Toasts und Sprünge, Tee und Kaffee. Nichts angenehm, sondern gut für den Preis des Aufenthalts. Die Küche und viele Geräte sowie Küchengeräte, und können auch von Gästen für die Küche verwendet werden. Das Hostel befindet sich auch auf zwei Etagen, mit dem oberen Stock auch Zimmer, eine Küche und eine Terrasse. Es war zu kalt zu verwenden, zu dieser Zeit des Jahres, aber ich ging auf und es hat einen schönen Blick auf den Stadthall. Das Hostel, Zimmer und Bad wurden während meines Aufenthalts sauber gehalten. Das Personal ist awesome, freundlich und hilfsbereit. Sie haben viele Informationen für Dinge zu tun und zu sehen in Oviedo und die Umgebung. Ich würde nicht zögern, wieder im Green Hostel zu bleiben.

I was only planning on staying one night, I ended up staying for three! My room was so comfortable and peaceful, and it had the most gorgeous view of the water and the castle. It is located near stunning beaches, lovely nature, and the incredible beauty of Northern Spain. I loved my stay here and I look forward to returning one day soon!

Hicimos una reserva de media pensión para pasar el fin de semana en Gijón. Aunque el hotel está en las afueras el precio era muy bueno y por eso creíamos que el hotel no sería gran cosa. Resultó todo lo contrario. Un hotel antiguo, que no viejo, con mucha madera y amplios espacios comunes muy bien decorados. La habitación, más que correcta, y decoración también estilo antiguo. Baño amplio con bañera. La cena fenomenal, un menú con varios platos a escoger y bebida incluida. El desayuno correcto para un hotel de 4 .estrellas. Nos llevamos una sorpresa positiva del hotel. Recomendable.

Hotel céntrico y cómodo, cercano al puente romano, en la plaza del pueblo, junto al Ayuntamiento. En la trasera hay un parking grande pero es de pago hasta el sábado al mediodía, aunque hay zonas cercanas para aparcar gratuitamente. El personal de recepción es agradable. La habitación muy amplia y decorada con gusto, parece renovada, un baño grande con ducha y bañera gigante. Las almohadas son cómodas y la cama grande pero en el centro había cómo una diferencia de altura, es posible que lo formaran 2 colchones de diferente grosor o 2 somieres con el ajuste de las patas diferentes. También dispone de un sofá que se convierte en cama. Las persianas tienen tecla de subida y bajada automática. Tv grande con muchos canales. En el baño, en la zona de espejos hay poca iluminación y es escasa para maquill**** o ver con nitidez la cara.... El desayuno variado con fruta, yogures, cafés e infusiones, zumo y bollería industrial pero sabroso y embutido. No hay huevos, ni bacon ni similar, pero está bien y es suficiente para salir desayunado del hotel. Si vuelvo por la zona repetiré. El hotel dispone de bar y restaurante, que tiene buena pinta, con terraza, y se ve frecuentado por los lugareños.

We stayed on June 2019. Great hotel at an exceptional location. Because we were three we booked a junior suite which has two rooms with two bathrooms and a living room where an espresso machine was our salvation on the quest of a Cuban coffee. The best of the room was the views from every window, you could see the entire Basilica and the Santina cave from the room. Breakfast buffet was really good with variety and quality. Staff nice and professional. The proximity to the lakes allow you to wake up early and visit them before the entrance closed (Summer time). I really recommend Gran Pelayo Hotel.

Estuvimos en una de las supuestas mejores habitaciones (con terraza y vista al mar, 225€ la noche). Anticuada, mal insonorizada, sucia (con gruesas bolas de pelusa bajo la cama y limpieza superficial del resto). El armario con una estantería metálica cutre, tipo verdulero de cocina. El cuarto de baño pequeño, con los cromados corroídos y sin un triste estante para dejar los productos de aseo. Lo peor, la peste a desagüe en la habitación y en el baño que obligaba a estar siempre con las ventanas abiertas. Bajábamos todos los días a la playa dejando puesto en la puerta el cartel para que hicieran la habitación. Al volver, dos horas después, el cuarto estaba siempre sin hacer. La encargada del comedor es poco profesional, tuteando a todo el mundo y muy borde, colocaba un cartel de ”reservado” en una de las mesas con vista al mar. Cuando te percatas de que en realidad no existe la reserva en cuestión y te sientas ahí te dice amenazadoramente que pone la reserva para que nadie cierre esa ventana ”porque si no, nos morimos todos de calor”. La comida mediocre. El desayuno pasable, hay buen yogur natural, fruta y algún bollo casero, pero falta algo caliente como huevos, bacon... Conclusión: su ubicación a pie de playa y las vistas desde las habitaciones orientadas al mar garantizan el lleno en verano, para qué molest**** en más...
