I've read a couple of negative reviews of this place and was a little nervous about going but honestly- I could not find one thing to complain about. The staff are so inviting and friendly- nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was great- there was a decent selection to suit any palate and everything we had was really delicious and packed with flavour. They had a large selection of all- inclusive drinks and the service was great- nothing we ordered was out of stock or unavailable. We stayed in the beach villa and the room was stunning- the view from our deck and beach loungers was postcard perfect. We spent most of our time at the adult pool area and everything there was gorgeous- they even do a sundowner set up on the beach that is spectacular. Honestly, this place is perfect for couples looking to switch off and reconnect with one another. Its an African island resort so if perfect wifi and top of the range Balsamic vinegar (yes, I actually heard people complaining about this) are what's important to you then this may not be the resort for you. The price point was worth every penny spent in my mind- for the view and the private beach loungers alone. There are plenty of free activities to keep you busy- walks along the beach, paddle boarding and kayaking. The dhow cruise (included in the stay) was also really special and worth doing. The sunsets are AMAZING- my poor phone photography skills just couldnt do them justice. We will definitely be going back!

Our worries began as soon as we arrived at the airport: a wait of over an hour, a chaotic arrival without any information. Uncomfortable transfer by boat, again with no information and rude staff. Once there, the rooms were 30 years old, hardly anyone spoke English fluently, and the food was not good or even dangerous (the chicken was raw in the middle!!). Activities are overpriced, nothing is included, the gym is dangerous because the equipment is outdated. The store and kids' room are empty, power outages are commonplace, and wifi is very poor. There's no manager, everyone does what they want. They try to trick you by invoicing you many things you didn't do upon check-out, be careful. Go elsewhere, there's a much better place right next door...

We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary at Anantara. The helicopter transfer from Vilanculos airport was a treat and got us to the resort an hour ahead of those who used the speedboat transfer. The beach villa complete with plunge pool ensured we had the best view, the beach close to the villa and the added spoilt to have a pool. Our host Claudio was attentive, well-spoken and knowledgeable. The food was good, decent wine selection and the seafood was nothing short of brilliant. We will definitely be back.

During our 10-day stay at Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort starting August 5, 2024, we experienced both the charm and the challenges of this tropical paradise. **Booking Process** The financial handling during the booking process was frustrating. We assumed our holiday was paid for on the Anantara website using American Express (a surcharge applied which was fine to us). However, just a few days before the intended arrival to Anantara, while already on holiday in the South African bush with limited access to mobile connectivity, we were informed that they could not process the American Express payment due to a banking system transition. We were asked to pay by bank transfer with unclear banking details, which were blocked by our bank's fraud department. This took a lot of time and effort to resolve. It would be much simpler if Anantara arranged a PayPal payment option or some other payment terminal which could easily avoid this kind of struggles. **Helicopter transfer and airport handling** The welcome and organisation on the Vilanculo airport by the Anatara staff was friendly and well organized delivering a swift pass through to the helicopter transfer. This helicopter ride over the azur blue ocean is an amazing experience to get to the resort. The pilot very friendly and experienced. **Accommodation and Facilities** The villas, while spacious and offering stunning ocean views, are noticeably outdated. The interior decor feels very old, with in example broken lamps, old useless kitchens as a memory to appartment style units in the past and curtain rails that no longer function properly. This detracted from the overall comfort and luxury we expected from an Anantara brand property. **Resort Infrastructure** The resort features, as a main walking infrastructure to get around, elevated wooden walkways and terraces, which are unfortunately in a state of disrepair. I even fell through one of the planks, and I am not particularly heavy. The lighting installed in these areas is exposed, posing a hazard, especially around the pool with water where children play. Additionally, the available airstrip is completely outdated, the tennis court has cracked and uneven tarmac, the artificial grass football field is half torn and damaged, all the signing is old and unreadable and the asphalt paths throughout the resort are all broken and worn out. A thorough renovation is urgently needed to address these safety concerns and to meet the high standards associated with the Anantara brand. **Staff and Service** Despite the outdated facilities, the staff performed wonders with the limited resources and outdated infrastructure and accommodation available. From housekeeping to the restaurants and reception, everyone was attentive and helpful. Their dedication and friendliness significantly enhanced our stay. **Food and Beverage Experience** Although we generally prefer à la carte dining, the buffets exceeded our expectations. The quality, themes, and variety were

We appreciate your insights and regret the aspects of your experience that did not meet your expectations. We acknowledged the areas of concern you highlighted, including the activities with kids and tennis club which your were particularly desapointed. We are currently working in the Hotel Renovation , which involves several sections such as the two bedrooms villas, the vegetable garden setup where guests will be able to enjoy a better scenery , good environment during cooking class lessons, fresh vegetables from the land to the table. The Nursery, the new snooker room, and up coming the new club naval revamp. Regarding the children playing in the recreation areas of the resort we are very open to all guests has families with kids requests for local experience and to accommodate their requirements we organize soccer tournaments between locals kids and the guests. We are proud of that destination and our resort, and I do believe that Bazaruto is a beautiful island–a natural wonder. Arrived 1pm yesterday in the hotel. We booked a two bedroom villo in order to be all together as a family. The villa is an absolute disaster, dirty toilette, one out of use, blanket with a dirt spot, dirty coach and sofa, can't even dare to seat and old broken furnitures. Frighten to open the window as broken glass on it. Te hotel offer to change our room, even worse than the first villa. the hotel director is proposing us even to move to another hotel or to have 2 others rooms one for our daughter and one for us while we booked a 2 bedroom suite. At 9:30 and the problem stil the same, unsolved.we pre payed 2000€/night. You can find much better for much cheaper! I have send a complain to minor group, a nd will call them in Bangkok let's see the response. If nothing will contact ministry of tourism of Mozambique to understand how can they give 5 stars to such hotel!!! Only positive point seems to be the view of the room. But again cheaper in much better in Seychelles, Mauritius or Maldives. We got an email from the GM this morning, very surprised by the way he answer our request and give us a departure time for boat to leave the hotel since we are unhappy which I don’t call it a customer service attitud. Only resort manager doing his job trying to find a solution.

Antwort der Unterkunft: Dear Anahitas, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent stay with us. We understand that the details you shared highlight some concerns about the condition of your room. However, it’s important to note that these issues represent a small portion of the overall room condition. When these concerns were raised, we offered you a room move to our beach location, which you declined. Additionally, when you requested an alternative hotel, we provided options that were also declined. As a result, you requested a full refund, and we recognize that all the solutions we offered were not accepted. Despite the alternatives and our efforts to address your concerns, you chose to continue your stay at the Resort and participated in several activities, including some that were offered on a complimentary basis. Guest satisfaction is of utmost importance to us, and we are committed to ensuring that all our guests experience Mozambique's warm hospitality. Please let us know how we can further assist you, and we hope to give us another opportunity to provide the high-quality service we are known for. MARCOS BUISSA Villas Operations Manager

We arrived at Anantara Resort on the helicopter which was an incredible experience. Would definitely recommend this if it is an option. The views were incredible. The hotel staff was friendly when we arrived and escorted us to our room. The walk to the room can be extremely long so if you have a far suite keep that in mind. The room was a bit outdated and had a foul odor throughout our stay. The view from the room is beautiful and being on the beach and being able to watch the sunset is lovely. The food at this hotel is not 5 star quality. We were served inedible food at times. The staff tried to make up for the quality of the food by offering us complimentary food but we did not have an appetite. The breakfast is also not great as the food is left out and not fresh. The drinks are ok but nothing special. I would not recommend doing the complimentary sunset cruise as the boat is extremely old and rocky. The staff was not accommodating on this cruise at all. When leaving the resort keep in mind that you have to walk through water to get to the boat which is an inconvenience. You end up arriving at the airport wet and sandy. Not great accommodations for a 5 star resort. All in all, the hotel is lovely and the views are spectacular. The rooms are a bi outdated as is the lobby. And the staff could have done a much better job making us feel welcomed.

Idyllic setting, spacious accommodation. We booked a pool beach villa which we really enjoyed and found to be quite private. The air-con was very good. Lovely views from all the beach front rooms. Unfortunately there is little marine life in the immediate vicinity so we have to take a boat trip to paradise island which was great but at a cost. The boat transfer ran to schedule taking approx one hour. The food was ok, only one restaurant open each evening and we were often asked to order in advance which we didn’t particularly like. The hotel is under new management so moving forward I’m sure he will enhance the dining experience. We really enjoyed our trip.

The island of Bazaruto is incredibly beautiful. The sand dunes where you can walk for hours, the beaches also very beautiful for long walks, the water is warm and clear. And there are many excursions possible, e.g. Paradise Island (Santa Carolina Island), one of the best beaches ever seen for swimming and snorkeling. Thanks to the Dive Center Team, especially to Diogo and Eddy for their excellent service for our snorkeling and scuba diving sessions. They are professional, friendly and helpful to make sure that we could experience the amazing snorkeling and scuba diving experiences. The hotel is located on a beautiful spot, along a nice beach. It is very much spread out so you have enough privacy. Unfortunately the hotel does not meet the requirements for a luxury traveler. First the hotel is old and dated, the rooms got tired and need some maintenance. E.g. air conditioner was broken, door did not close properly etc. However the very disappointing part was the hotel service. although the people from Mozambique are friendly, in a five star hotel you expect some service, especially when it is part of Anantara. There were so many times I asked for simple things (cloth hangers, water, towels, shower gel, because they forgot to replace them regularly- but I had to insist to get these simple things and only got them after several reminders. Same with food service, also here lack of attention. There are a few nice staff members (e.g. Marcos and Massada to name a few) who really do their best, but the majority is unfortunately not trained enough. And last not least, I would say even more important, there is a lack of management. They never come and greet guests and ask the guests if everything is ok, they never watch if all goes well. This is the main issue here. Food is good, but not great. I would like to highlight in particular the fish they prepared especially for us was excellent - thank you Sergio for making this possible. Also the lobster ravioli and the tandoori prawns were very good. Desserts were less good. In conclusion: if you don’t mind a mediocre hotel in a great location at a high price (1200 USD per night is not cheap) you might like it. For luxury travelers I highly recommend to go for other options. What a pity, a fantastic environment with so much potential, but hopefully they will improve one day. Once again, the island is stunning, I highly recommend to visit.

An unforgettable stay in paradise We spent seven magical days at Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort for our honeymoon, and we couldn’t be more grateful for this exceptional experience. This place is a true haven of nature, a peaceful sanctuary where you feel privileged every moment. Imagine yourself with your feet in the water, on an almost deserted beach, surrounded by pure tranquility and the wild beauty of the island... After an intense week on safari in South Africa, this was exactly what we needed to relax, recharge, and savor a serene escape. Discovering Mozambique in this way was absolutely wonderful. The staff deserves special mention for their kindness, attentiveness, and warm smiles, making us feel pampered and truly valued. Admittedly, it may not be “over-the-top luxury,” but the real luxury here is enjoying a secluded island, far from crowds and mass tourism, where you can walk along the beach with nothing but the sound of the ocean. Thank you so much to the entire team at Anantara Bazaruto for their care and for making our stay so unique. We will return with pleasure, cherishing the memories of this paradise.

This is not a 5 star resort. The accommodations and resort are very outdated - the room, even though beachfront, is so dark and gets no natural light. A musty smell from the moment we walked in that lingered throughout our stay. Our safe was broken — which the staff was aware of upon arrival — they never came back to fix it until we called the next day to check in on it. The sliding door to the bathroom was broken barely hanging on - the repairman told us it was “too big of a job” to repair. The furniture was very chipped in our room and just generally poor accommodations for a “5 star” resort. The food was subpar… mediocre at best. The breakfast food was always extremely picked over, they wouldn’t bring any more fresh fruit out and the hot food was always cold to room temperature. It’s sad when the best food on an island resort is the pizza. The lunch and dinner menu are the same with the exception of one smaller lunch side menu at the beach front restaurant. Also, not sure how an all inclusive charges extra for a simple drink like a margarita. The staff needs training, it seemed like it was everyone’s first day on the job. They were rather disinterested and seemingly unhappy. Ordering a drink or food felt like a burden. We were only once greeted or ushered to a table for any of our meals. Not warm or friendly with the exception of one lovely woman during dinner service. During the first part of our honeymoon, we stayed at the Belmond Mount Nelson, Leeu Estates and Dulini Lodge in Sabi Sands - those are truly 5 star accommodations. Our stay here was extremely disappointing, so much so that we opted to leave a day early. The accommodations, staff and food fell short in every aspect - a lackluster ending to an incredible honeymoon. This resort is not cheap, so it’s very disappointing when the price does not come close to matching the level of service you are expecting for a 5 star resort - let alone an Anantara property. We would advise against booking here as there seems to be much nicer resorts on Benguerra Island.
