1st time skiing in Italy 60/58yr old, "intermediate" skiers Not party animals Can't speak Italian........... What an absolutely fabulous place to stay for our trip. I think, as far as skiing goes, that's subjective. Depends on how you ski & what you prefer. For us it was perfect. 4 days of, virtually, empty well groomed piste. Wide open slopes. Last 2 days it snowed & visibility was poor so more challenging. The hotel.... Ski in, ski out. Right next to the bottom ski lift. We booked through Crystal and, on arrival at the hotel, were picked up by the ski hire dude, taken to get our gear then driven back down. We just had to leave our stuff in the ski/boot rooms for them to collect when we'd finished the week. Great service as well from them 👍 The hotel itself is very traditional. Big rooms and en-suites, open reception area with bar and fire. One thing I will say is we had an "eaves room" which was nice but it had a massive beam right across the room that I had a struggle not hitting my head on every 5 mins. And I'm 5.6 😂😂😂 Would stay there again though. Same room, everything. No danger. I think, & it's very much to their credit, the main thing about this hotel is the staff. They are absolutely brilliant. Every single one of them. Seemed to be a lot or returning guests & we most likely will as well. The food was gorgeous. Took us the first day to get a grip of the process because it's not self service but once we cottoned on it was brilliant. Appetizer of the day then a series of courses depending on your personal taste. Salad bar Soup (every soup was lush, esp with croutons & parmasan 😜) Mains (the lasagne & 3 cheese gnocchi, my favs but the succulent pork on sat night was immense too) Dessert Breakfast was continental but also with a hot choice of toast/scrambled eggs and sausage/bacon/boiled eggs (not dippy) Breakfast at 8.15 followed by dinner af 7.30 for us so we had a late afternoon focaccia/panini next door by the ski lift with a few drinks as well to keep us going 😂 The resort itself is quiet. Absolutely zero nightlife so Pila isn't for the young, free & energetic. As I said, apart from value, location, cleanliness, food & ambience it's the staff that make this hotel a place worth staying. Grazie mille a tutti per esservi presi cura di noi. Arrivederci
