We have typically stayed at the Alexandrian when visiting Alexandria. We decided to try a new place and chose the Morrison House. Upon arriving we encountered one key difference. The hotel looks like it is in what used to use to be a mansion. The lobby is at the parlor level otherwise known as the second floor. My wife was one month out of hip surgery. There is no elevator from street level and on a Sunday afternoon when we arrived, no help with luggage. There was a cart on the parlor level we could use for our luggage. We had taken advantage of a rate with valet parking, which I would recommend, as the street parking in Old Town is limited and restricted mostly to locals. There is no coffee or tea in the room but there is coffee and tea in the breakfast room. It is not well publicized but I think it is free. Those who describe breakfast as grab and go are not being fair. When we were there were small sandwiches as well as fruit and eggs. Yes it is $25/person but it is a buffet and the room where it is served is lovely. We did not take advantage, preferring instead a great independent coffee shop around the corner on King Street filled with locals on their computers. There is a nice bar, which is not open on Sunday and Monday nights, which is when we were there. When we left they did take the luggage down in the elevator to our car and brought it around. Now that is service. The staff were all very nice and helpful. Lobby on second floor, no help with luggage on the way in, breakfast not included and $25/person, no bar open. Room was small.
