I have stayed in about 200 hostels in 45 countries and this was the joint worst one I've slept in. I stayed in room 38 which smelt musty and had many cockroaches in the bathroom, bedroom floor and on the bedside table. There was a window but a bathroom had been built immediately in front of it so the view was of a plaster wall. On a bright summer's day we needed to put the light on. The ceiling appeared to be tiles of congealed hay. The bathroom was disgusting, with exceptionally ugly 70s tiles, excessive plugs (probably the source of the cockroaches) and a palm-sized hole in the middle of the floor that appeared to be blocked up with bits of tissue or cooked rice. The sliding door bounced around with gaps at the sides so we had no privacy. There are no windows in the kitchen, dining room or lounge, which were all dimly lit, uninviting and not a place you'd want to linger or socialise in. The location isn't ideal either, as you can't walk to the hostel from the bus or train station, beach, river or key attractions. A large sign says 'No refunds' and no wonder. If they allowed them everyone would request a refund, like I did. I checked out two days early. I told staff it was the joint worst hostel I'd ever stayed in. They didn't ask why. Life is too short to stay somewhere this grim.
