My father in-law and I stayed here as a stop off on the NC500. Wow, what a gem of a place. The building is a former hunting lodge. The entrance is grand with a large wooden staircase and hunting trophies on the wall, this theme continues around the hotel. We stayed in a twin room. The room had high ceilings and two very comfortable twin beds. The room was clean and very quiet. The bathroom was nicely finished and even had a jacuzzi bath, which was great for a soak after a long day driving. The lodge was without a chef when we stayed, therefore the menu was limited. However, we both had pies and chips with veg and the food was cooked nicely and delicious. We also had two lovely deserts. I have to say, although limited, the food was very good and hit the spot. Breakfast was also really good. There were cereals and continental options as well as cooked. We had cooked and it was delicious. The bar is well stocked and has a large selection of whiskies. The customer service was fantastic. The proprietor was very friendly and we had a long chat when he served us in the bar. Nothing was too much trouble. Something that is sorely missing in many places today. Overall a gem of a hotel and not to be missed, with a warm and friendly welcome. Would definitely stay again if I am back in that area.
