Hotels in der Nähe von Wasserfall, Grýtubakkahreppur

Während einer Rundreise habe ich zwei Nächte im Edda Hotel in Akureyri verbracht. Mein Zimmer lag im Untergeschoss und war grosszügig - jedoch ohne Stil. Dass das Edda Hotel auch ein Schulheim ist, sieht man den Zimmern leider an. Trotzdem war es ruhig im Hotel und ich habe gut geschlafen. Das Zimmer war sauber und das Bad grosszügig. Mir fehlte etwas die Liebe zum Detail, die Zimmer sind lieblos. Zum Schlafen reicht es aber. Das Frühstück war aus meiner Sicht jedoch sehr vielseitig und es fehlte mir an nichts. Das Personal (alles sehr junge Leute) freundlich, aber etwas teilweise etwas überfordert mit den vielen Gästen zu dieser Zeit. Das Abendessen haben wir anderswo einnehmen können, da das Restaurant im Haus im Moment (Corona) noch geschlossen war. Von aussen sieht das Hotel sehr modern aus - innen leider etwas stillos gestaltet.

Erstklassige Lage in der Innenstadt, in der Nähe der Akureyri-Kirche. Der Parkplatz am Hoteleingang ist etwas eng, aber es gibt einen Parkplatz in der Nähe (er scheint außerhalb von 10-16 Uhr frei zu sein). Die Zimmer sind etwas eng, haben aber alles. Der Service an der Rezeption war gut. Das Frühstück war in Ordnung.

Das Hotel befindet sich direkt in Akureyri ca 800m vom Stadtzentrum entfernt. Supermärkte, Apotheke und andere Geschäfte gibt es im Stadtzentrum bzw 1km vom Hotel ist ein Netto & im Hotel gibt es ein Restaurant und Snacks / Wasser. Die Zimmer sind groß und schön eingerichtet. Das Wlan funktioniert gut. Steckdosen gibt es einige aber nicht an jeder Bettseite. Nur an einer. Nachttische gibt es nur einen komischen Tabletttisch. Es gibt eine Heizung. Das Bad ist komisch aufgeteilt, in der einen Zimmerhälfte ist Waschbecken und Toilette dann muss man durch das ganze Zimmer laufen und auf der anderen Seite ist dann die Dusch. Es gibt genug Ablagefläche am Waschbecken aber keine in der Dusche. Die Dusche funktioniert. Handtücher gibt es, ebenso eine Steckdose im Bad und einen Föhn. Es gibt leider keinen Kühlschrank Aber Wasserkocher, Tv leider ohne Deutsche Programme, einen Safe gibt es leider nicht. Es gibt einen Schrank. Es gibt eine Bank, einen Tisch und einen Stuhl. Duschgel Shampoo & Conditioner sind vorhanden. Die Betten ist angenehm weich und groß genug. Es gibt auch keinen Ganzkörperspiegel. Ein Aufzug ist vorhanden. Das Personal ist relativ freundlich. Das Hotel ist relativ sauber. Man kann das Zimmer leider durch Vorhänge nicht ganz abdunkeln. Zum Frühstück gibt es Buffet mit großer Auswahl an verschiedenen Broten, Getränken, Marmelade, Obst, Skyr, Rührei, Spiegelei, Gemüse, Waffeln, Gebäck, Müsli und Joghurt. Abendessen kann man im Aurorarestaurant.

We were caught up in a rare extreme weather event in Iceland that resulted in road closures, which meant we needed to change our itinerary and cancel our reservation as we literally could not make it. We'd paid the booking fee to have cancellation option but the property set the cancellation date a week ahead, and we were 3 days past, and the property would do nothing for us. Booking.com agreed we should be refunded, given the situation was entirely out of our control (literally--no way to get there in time), and their customer service representative was very surprised when this hotel refused to do so. We had another hotel we had to cancel refund us fully even though the cancellation date was passed because they acknowledged we were stuck, and another one rebook us free of charge, and many other tourists we talked with shared similar positive experiences. I spoke with another hotel manager en route who said that they can not refund nonrefundable bookings regardless of circumstances but are always flexible with the bookings that included a cancellation date, and flexible about the date in extreme circumstances. When I described to this person that Lava Apartments refused to accommodate us in any way with a refund or option to re-book another day if we could make that work, she said that was ”just mean.” Most bizarrely, one of the staff at Lava Apartments claimed there were no road closures when we first contacted them. She seemed unable to understand we were stuck in the south of the country. We have been really surprised that this accommodation was so hard line when all our other experiences were so positive. So beware--if extreme weather (to which Iceland is prone) prevents you from keeping your reservation--even if you've paid for the cancellation option as opposed to the ”nonrefundable” booking--this hotel will hold the line and refuse to accommodate you. ”Just mean” about sums it up.
